Capturing the delightful scene on camera, the visitor filmed as the curious giants dipped their trunks into the water, sipping and splashing with apparent enjoyment.
The video begins with the tourist cautiously stepping onto her porch to witness the scene up close. The elephants, unfazed by her quiet approach, continued their refreshing drink, and even a young calf eagerly joined in, playfully dipping its trunk.
With each step closer, the tourist captured incredible footage of the elephants, undeterred by their impressive tusks.
Shared on Reddit through Imgur by user SlimJones123, the video quickly went viral, garnering over 2,000 comments.
Among the responses, one user recognized the location as likely belonging to Thanda Game Reserve in South Africa, speculating it might be Lodge 3—a known favorite among the local elephants.
According to the National Elephant Center, adult elephants consume large quantities of food—up to 600 pounds daily—and can drink approximately 50 gallons of water, similar to a full standard bathtub. Their diet, as herbivores, mainly consists of tree foliage, bark, grass, and twigs.
This unexpected encounter highlights the peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife in carefully maintained reserves like Thanda, where the line between natural habitats and guest spaces often blurs in magical ways.
