A baby Asian elephant born three weeks premature is stealing hearts at Singapore’s Night Safari.
Despite her early arrival, the calf seems unbothered, confidently making her public debut after two months under close care.
In delightful footage, the little elephant appears a bit timid initially, staying close to her mother, Sri Nandong, and her aunts, Jamilah and Tun.
But as her family enjoys a banana snack, she builds courage, moving between them with growing ease.
Too young for solid food, she nibbles on playfulness instead, occasionally lying safely between her relatives’ legs as they stand carefully to avoid stepping on her.
At one point, she even joins her aunt Tun for a sandy play session, sharing in the dust bath with evident joy.
According to the park’s elephant expert, Novendran Suppiah, the calf’s aunts have been helping her learn essential skills, such as using her trunk and having fun.
Asian elephants are critically endangered, with an estimated 40,000 remaining in the wild. This new arrival marks the first birth of an Asian elephant calf at Night Safari in six years.
“This makes her even more dear to us,” a park spokesperson shared, emphasizing the calf’s significance in their conservation efforts.
