Elephants Truly Never Forget! Heartwarming Video Shows Baby Elephant Kham Lha Rushing to ‘Rescue’ Her Beloved Trainer (VIDEO)
Touching footage captures a young elephant named Kham Lha rushing across a river to ‘rescue’ her favorite trainer, who she thought was in distress.
The video, filmed at Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand, shows Kham Lha, a five-year-old elephant, quickly wading through the water toward her trainer, Darrick Thomson, who was pretending to struggle in the river, splashing and calling for help.
Watch the video at the end.
Darrick, 42, originally from Toronto, Canada, explained that he shares a close bond with Kham Lha, whom he helped rescue a year ago.
When Kham Lha reaches him, she tries to lift him using her trunk and wraps a leg around him protectively.
The two are shown smiling and sharing a touching moment as Darrick clings to her leg. Reflecting on their bond, Darrick said, “Kham Lha was in a terrible state when she arrived.
She had been tied up and endured a harsh training process called ‘crushing,’ meant to make elephants compliant for the tourism industry.”
After her rescue, Kham Lha was free to roam Elephant Nature Park’s protected sanctuary, where she now lives alongside other elephants in a safe and caring environment.
Darrick believes their close relationship shows how elephants respond to kindness. “If you show them warmth and care, they respond in kind,” he said.
The practice of ‘crushing,’ common in Thailand’s elephant tourism sector, involves restraining young elephants and using force to make them more docile around humans.
A spokesperson from Elephant Nature Park expressed pride in Kham Lha’s progress, noting her adjustment and joy in her new home: “The video beautifully captures her bond with Darrick and is a strong reminder of the importance of compassion toward animals.”
