Rare Pink Elephant Calf Spotted in South African Safari Park Due to Unique Condition

 A rare “pink” elephant calf has become the center of attention among her herd in South Africa, standing out with her unique appearance.

The three-week-old calf was recently spotted playing in the grass with her family in, Malamala Game Reserve located in Kruger Nationnal Park

Her light-colored skin sharply contrasts with the darker grey tones of the adult elephants around her.


According to safari ranger Tim Jansen van Vuuren, who captured images of the calf, her rare coloring is caused by leucism. This genetic condition leads to a partial loss of pigmentation, making it different from albinism.

“It’s a genetic disorder that will stay with her for life,” van Vuuren explained. “This is one of the most fascinating things I’ve ever seen in the wild. It’s not well-documented, and you won’t see something like this in textbooks.”
