A bull elephant stood menacingly before a group of tourists in Kruger National Park, South Africa after their safari vehicle unexpectedly blocked his way.
The elephant was in musth, a period of heightened testosterone in male elephants often linked to increased aggression and reproductive drive.
Kevin Kramer, a 53-year-old tourist who recorded the incident, shared, “We were traveling along the Skukuza-Lower Sabie Road by the river, watching a herd of elephants drink when they started moving toward us.”
He described how a large bull, clearly in musth, began displaying intimidating behavior. “All six of us felt pretty nervous,” Kramer noted. “But our guide, Simon Vegter, stayed calm and slowly reversed the jeep to give the bull more space.”
Afterward, Vegter explained that since their vehicle was on the road first, the encounter wasn’t as confrontational as it might have appeared.
